Search Engine Algorithm Mystery, Part 1

I appear to have stumbled across a search engine algorithm mystery when it comes to getting my pages ranked. In a matter of three days I was whomped (is that a word?) off the charts by Google for lord knows what factor. In spite of this, I gained rank elsewhere on their SERPs. Every search engine has their own unique crawl rate and algorithm but I didn’t realize there was such a BIG difference between the three major search engines (Google, Yahoo!, Bing) until I discovered the following: ...

PPC Job Interview, Part 2

Approximately two weeks ago I completed my telephone interview with a search engine marketing company for the position of Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Specialist. You can read the first part of my series at SEM/PPC Job Interview, Part 1 to get yourself up to speed. A few days after my initial phone interview, I was notified via e-mail that I had advanced to the next part of the hiring process and they required me to pass yet another telephone job interview with the VP of Marketing. Scary! Why? Because I don’t know the first thing about marketing principles and theories. It’s all quantum astrophysics to me! I was literally shaking in my pants for the entire week and did nothing but read all the marketing 101 guides I could find online. ...

PPC Job Interview, Part 1

This is just Part 1 of my X part series of posts in obtaining the position of PPC Analyst for a SEM company based in southern California. And by X it means I don’t know when I’ll be getting the cut which will abruptly cause an end to this series. About a week ago ago I replied to an advertisement on Craigslist for an entry level position as a PPC Analyst for a southern California performance marketing company. With all honesty, I never expected to hear from them but to my pleasant surprise, they scheduled me for a phone interview the day after with their department’s SEO Manager and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Specialist. It was an early Christmas for me! ...

What is SEO?

Before the beginning of my SEO journey, I had discovered the art and science of Search Engine Optimization a few months back when I was sifting through the Marketing/PR/Ad job postings on Craigslist and stumbled upon a posting titled SEO Analyst. Intrigued, I Google’d the term and digested a litany of blogs and articles related to SEO where I learned that terms like ROI and traffic conversion isn’t a sexual innuendo. This blog post answers my 3-month old question, “What is SEO?” But first, we’ll need a quick history lesson. ...

Let My SEO Journey Begin

Hey there! Since this is my first blog post for SEO Christopher Yee, I find it only appropriate to detail a little bit about myself and what I’ll be blogging about. For starters, my name is Christopher Yee and I was born and raised in good ol’ San Francisco, CA. I graduated from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA with a double major in International Relations and Asian Language Studies - Mandarin Chinese. Just like all other college graduates out there, I am currently working in an industry wholly unrelated to my major. ...
